Sunitha Mary Mookken

Sunitha Mary Mookken has always enjoyed writing but it took a backseat with work and kids. Now that she is in-between jobs, she has turned once more to the things that comfort her, among which is writing for the sheer joy of it.

Setting the Scene for Artistry

Writing by hand,
I am one of the great writers.
Chair drawn up to table,
Spectacles on nose.
Late at night,
Wind and rain beating on shutters.
Only glow from a table lamp,
Circle of light on white pages.
Pen moving busily,
Frequent pauses for thought.

Clank, clank goes the keyboard,
All illusion fades.
Nothing dreamy, nothing poetic,
Mystique is missing,
And so is the muse.

Suncatcher Stains

Suncatcher staining my orchid blue,
Scent of cool water seeping into parched soil.
White lace hanging throwing intricate shadows,
A newborn, tightly-curled lotus leaf.
Barleria in yellow, violet and a kind of red,
Fragrance from my neighbor's incense wafts through the air.
Dulcet notes from my swaying wind chime,
A butterfly comes calling, sipping and hovering.
Hot coffee and a book and I am all set,
Rich as I am, in time and gratitude.
