In My Arms

When I lie face up, hoary and broken,
drowning in a freak sea,

or when I crash into a mountain

trying to recite my mantra

invoking Buddha as my pilot—
or close my blind eyes

in a nursing home as my sons
kiss my forehead, moisten my lips,

some trace of me will remain
a shade on this porch swing,

my arms, shelter for our love,
fixed in this moment of bliss.

Reflection- To a Real Husband

The sheers are purling in the evening wind.
You are lazing in a moonbeam,
bare feet up on the wicker chair.

I know we vowed
not to be each other’s happiness
when we were young,
when neither could believe we’d last.
But now your face softens
the lines on mine.

Past the age
of liking mirrors, I look
into you.
