Origami Sightings & Comments
Below are comments we’ve received about the Origami Poems Project.
I went looking for info on chapbooks and was so happy to stumble upon your website. I have been creating what i call my Little Books for years. Completely mesmerized by the form and size, I have been passing these into the world over here on the west coast. Now i see that you are over there! I am not alone :) ... I told my son about your website, your little books recently and he said that he has seen the bags of poetry in a neighbourhood in Halifax, Nova Scotia. ... Meanwhile... I wanted to let you know that your website and sharing of your poetry inspires me greatly...

I first saw your books at Books on the Square and someone else told me that they find them there. I've been making some to take with me to NYC tomorrow and I also handed them out in one of my poetry classes which was very fun. I'm feeling great about this. You are very welcome for the donation which I am proud to give you. Your project is amazing on so many levels...

I visited Peacevale RI this summer to see an artist friend... and he and his wife brought me to a art exibit and all the wonderful poems were in a basket to take. What a great idea! We'll respond and send you some when they are done. Inspire on!!

I was on little vacation to Rhode Island with my family this past weekend and found your project at that crazy burger joint. I really enjoyed: Knowles, Giovan, and Roby. I have included a lune I wrote for you folks.
p.s. love the Galaxy Quest reference @ home site.

The Origami booklets safely arrived. As you will appreciate, there is nothing quite like seeing the booklets for the first time. They went into everyone's stocking, but my biggest pleasure was sending one to my mentor...
Thank you for the whole experience. I spread the word about Origami Poems every chance I get.

I am a 7th grade English teacher in Ct. Recently after eating at Crazy Burger in Narragansett, RI, I spotted some postcards in a Ziplock bag on a telephone pole. Curious, I took a postcard with me and have been researching your wonderful project ever since.
Thanks so much for your time and for this inspiring project.

What a fabulous idea! Poems as moving pieces of paper.
I... would be very much like to participate.

When I was in Rhode Island this summer I saw a plastic baggie tacked to a telephone pole with a bunch of little 3x4 inch books inside. Each book was a little book of poems. A sign encouraged us to take one, so I did!
Thanks for the inspiration!

This is the most innovative way of sharing poetry that I've seen in a while.

I should write and tell you that we spread the word about the Origami Poems on Block Island last weekend.
Lisa passed origami booklets to all. Naomi Shihab Nye was there and she asked me to tell the whole group (about 45 people)
about what you ladies are doing.
Everyone was so excited and impressed with the project.

I'm Cole, and I'm in love. That being said, I am also a poor graduate student.
My girlfriend recently found a book of your sonnets and was enamored. I was also quite impressed.
I wanted to give her something similar as a heartfelt, but free gift for valentine's day
but have had a difficult time in figuring out the layout of the origami book...
Any guidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

A true instance of serendipity--I would love for you to bring the small poetry books. My original intention in doing the show was to make a piece containing "pocket poetry" that people could take from and add to! So--wonderful idea!

Since I am a poet, and have been known to fold up poems into birds and leave them in trees in May,
I'd love to hear more about the Project!

I've picked up a couple here and there (at the Courthouse Center for the Arts and at Java Madness)
and enjoy the format (and variety).

I was visiting RI and came upon your lovely poetry origami books in a library.
I had gone up from NY alone to get some time to read & write (I write poetry!) and was quite tickled to find
your wonderful project... I'm interested in doing a project like this with the school where my son used to attend.
What a great idea! Thanks for spreading the poetry bug...

We have enjoyed having your display in the library and it has gotten a good response.
I read the nice article that was written about your project in the newspaper. Good job on a successful project!

A colleague brought your project to my attention, and I wanted to ask if our public library…
could take part in your project.
We would love to be able to provide our patrons with access to more poetry!

Please send me information… It is such an intriguing idea!

I was pleased to see a collection of poems neatly folded in a plastic Ziploc bag near the pier pizza on Main Street,
it was enough to catch my attention (I hope you don't mind, I took two: A Cup of Origami, and
Fun with Words which I have yet still to look at).
I like the concept of whatever it is your doing with them.

Thank you so much for all that you are doing to promote poetry. I was so inspired reading about your efforts
in the South County Independent, and then meeting you in person in Wakefield last Saturday!
I am confident that adding this project at my school will be well-received...
Also, I've passed-along booklets and the original article to several friends who are also educators…

I am a teacher and a poet. I would love to obtain a sample of some origami poems so I can see how they work.
Also, I'm interested in how the paper is folded to accommodate the poems.

My best friend and I found your poems at Phantom Farms, and we loved them. It was like finding a little treasure!
Please keep it up and I will pass it along to my friends and family who will appreciate it. Thank you.

Yesterday at the law school, a young woman stopped … She said OH, WE LOVE THE ORIGAMIS!!!
Yes, in that voice with such joy.
She and a friend have been to the coffee shop in Middletown to visit “the box.”
They are trying to collect all the origamis. They routinely read the poems to each other when they feel stressed.
“Free poetry is the coolest idea ever!! Wow! What an idea!”

I’ve been meaning to write to say thanks for the poem I found on a telephone pole in front of the Different Drummer in Wickford, RI.
I was back in Rhode Island for my niece‘s wedding…and I was missing my pups very much when I found the poem “I Love (My) Dogs”.
It was perfect and made me appreciate my dogs even more (if that’s possible)…
A totally unexpected find – that poem still makes me smile – thank you!

Also, just wanted you to know that a friend of mine - a social worker who works
with "problem" kids - was inspired to try the origami book idea with them!

Dear Origamis, What you are doing is important and totally excellent. Thanks!

Just a word of thanks for a great idea. I became aware of you through... one of your more recent participants...
who shared her (book) with our poetry group.
Your origami book... looks like (and is) a little treasure. Even the most reluctant poetry reader can appreciate it.
Thank you for your enthusiasm for distributing poems.
